Summary
The objective of this Project was to understand the capacity of socially innovative practices emerging in Spanish cities to generate social inclusion amidst a context of widening of social exclusion. Socially innovative initiatives are understood here as the initiatives developed by citizens or from local administration aimed at improving living conditions through the provision of material and immaterial resources to excluded individuals or groups, as ell as giving them more decision-making power on how to deal with the provision of such resources and how to tackle social exclusion dynamics.
The project compared initiatives in four cities (Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid and Zaragoza) from three different fields: employment, resources and political participation and self-management of resources, following the knowledge accumulated in previous research projects Katarsis and Social Polis.
