Javier Vergel Faro is a researcher specialising in Urban Studies from a comprehensive and interdisciplinary perspective. He has developed his doctoral thesis within the Sociology Programme of the University of Barcelona (2019-2024), where he researches the urban transformation of the Bon Pastor neighbourhood in Barcelona. This work examines the interrelationship between urban regeneration processes and the socially innovative practices that have emerged in this context. Previously, he completed a Master in Urban Design: Art, City and Society at the University of Barcelona (2015-2017) and holds a degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the University of Zaragoza (2007-2012).
His research experience includes a sustained collaboration with the CRIT research group and the Polis Research Centre, since his time as a master’s student. During this period, he has participated in several research projects addressing urban issues from multiple perspectives, consolidating his main research interests in urban public policy, urban design, community development, governance, citizen participation and social innovation.
Javier has also contributed to the teaching support of both the Master in Urban Design and the Master in Sociology at the University of Barcelona, organising fieldwork and specific seminars focused on practical research.
